Bus Clarification - Surrey promise is not much.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the promise of bus travel.
Many people seem to think they will get a bus - to see what Surrey promised see here:
Consultation = No Buses - Travel may be worst for ...

Or play the Bus game.

If you do not qualify and choose to drive

2 miles there and 2 miles back = £1.20
twice a day that is £2.40
190 school days per year =

£456 per year.

  1. Glad the bus travel has been mentioned. Yet again SCC will only have to supply bus travel for a minority of pupils! As most pupils live within the two miles radius! They still don't seem to grasp why parents are upset about the split site and their children now having to walk unto 4 miles a day. We were told by Nick smith last night that it was an easy 2 mile walk. Maybe for an adult with no baggage, but certainly not for a child with all the equipment. After last nights meeting I have only come away even more disillusioned with SCC than I was!

  2. I am still confused. What happens if your child is in other years eg yr 4 or 5 currently? Will there be a bus but they will have to pay or will there be no bus at all after current yr 6 and 7 finish at Kings? I live 2.9 miles measured by car.... too far to walk, therefore would begrudgingly maybe pay for a bus if provided, as do Collingwood parents.

  3. The problem with SurreyCC is that they do not give out any informations so the short answer is "I don't know". We are talking to local bus companies to try to sort out what they know, oddly they do not seem to know much about it so maybe Surrey has not asked them to comment yet. You will NOT get free transport but there may be a bus route. I don't believe that a bus will cut it there would have to be a fleet of busses - so many I don't believe that a private company is going to manage - bu tI may be wrong.

  5. I have spoken to the Transport Dept at SCC today who told me "they know a little bit about the merger". They have not been requested by PJ to speak to the bus company (stagecoach) about the logistics of this. PJ told me last night when I asked him if he had spoken to the bus company that it was down to the Transport Dept but has clearly done nothing about it. I am waiting to hear back from Stagecoach as to whether they do know anything about it or not.

  6. Please remember all this during the next county council elections. It is the policy of the CC that is being enacted by the LEA.
