Parental questionnaire to be filled out and handed to school on Monday morning. You can hand the forms directly to the "Data Entry Administrator" (i.e. in person) on the morning of the inspection (Monday 16th) if you wish, it would also be possible to speak to an inspector at that time too.
You can click on the picture of the form to find a document to print if the school did not provide you with one.
For my own personal point of view I am particularly interested in question
11. The school takes account of my questions and concerns.
Frankly I feel that the Governing Body and Head Teacher have failed massively in their duty to engage with parents. I started out by being disappointed that they were not more proactive and have evolved that frustration to a position where I feel they are either incompetent in dealing with the situation or are being deliberately obstructive. From me that will get a "Strongly Disagree" and a lengthy explanation of why I feel that way.
12. The school is led and managed effectively.
Until recently I saw no reason to imagine that it was not effectively managed so it is tempting to be charitable here but then I feel you should be judged not on what happens when things run smoothly but rather what happens when you are placed under pressure. The Executive Principal and Governing body have NOT "managed effectively" the suggested "merger" and so with apologies to those in the Senior Management Team and Governors who are trying to do the best I'm afraid it will again be a "Strongly Disagree" again. I do not know the exact factors that cause the SMT and Governors to have so badly mismanaged this but the outcome has not been good.
It is with a great reluctance that I make comments that reflect poorly on the school but given that we have REPEATEDLY given chances for the SMT / Governors to engage with parents and they have failed - the only avenue left is to complain to someone who will force them to change.
I am sure that other people will have a variety of different viewpoints on this and you can reflect whatever viewpoint you have on the private form that you hand in. This form does not have to be signed. I encourage you to fill the form out with your views and hand it in regardless of whether you agree with me or not.
best wishes
Ian Sorby
How do we get hold of this Ofsted form, pls
ReplyDeletemy daughter is at Tcote Sixth form
If you click on the picture it takes you to a document you can print out.
ReplyDeleteI suggest you mention that you did not get given a form, I'm really interested why we had to go into school to get one.
why don't you ask them out right before you start making assumptions? and write who you support in the slt, not just tar them all with the same brush?
ReplyDeleteWhy wasn't the questionnaire sent out on parentmail? Isn't that what it is there for? I have now spoken to eight parents today who did not receive the forms at the end of last week and all their children say they were not given a letter to bring home and weren't aware that any of their friends got them either. It is not just one year group, so whole sections of the school must have been missed due to one reason or another. I find this slightly concerning.
ReplyDeleteTo anon 15:10 : The form asks me to rate the performance of the SLT and Governors as a whole with respect to their communication and efficacy. I am VERY well aware that there are members of both the SLT and Governors who are as upset with what is happening as I am, but thanks to the efforts of a few the overall effect is of a "failing" SLT and "failing" governors. Leastways with the information that the two bodies deign to share with us that is the only conclusion with the information we are allowed.
ReplyDeleteTo anon 15:10 : In terms of sorting out who was responsible for what... if everyone was capable of participating in an open discussion of their feelings there would be less "tarring of groups of people". Why do Teachers, Governors and SLT not feel they can make their opinions known? Perhaps its because if they "nail their colors to the mast" they are scared of what will happen when "the ship comes in at the wrong port". The fact that we have not heard the voices of Teachers and SLT in the debate (as possibly the most informed when it comes to practical educational decisions) is an absolute disgrace - if not too surprising. Do not think for a minute that anyone is tarring everyone with the same brush. I could probably name a list of individuals to whom we should be grateful, but to do so might place them at risk. Equally to single out those responsible with too much detail would also (by process of elimination) not be good. I will leave it to others to search their own hearts and decide if the "fear" that teachers have about speaking out is just imagined.
ReplyDeleteFunny how we did not get this form attached. Has anyone told Ofsted.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the parentmail specifically stated that it couldn't be sent via parentmail but there are documented examples of schools in the area that have had the form sent via parentmail within the last 6 months.
ReplyDeleteCan't or wont
I get the feeling this document was not sent deliberately so Ofsted think we are all happy/NOT
ReplyDeleteAsked for the Ofsted guys but the school prevented - they certainly didn't want me too see them
ReplyDeleteApparently the school is only obliged to hand out a form to a percentage of children say 150 forms for 800 children - so who do they CHOOSE to hand them out to??
ReplyDeleteWhat worries me is who decides which 150 students get the forms? Is it Ofsted or the school? How is the 150 spread across year groups? 150 doesn't seem very much to represent the views of 1600 parents (and not all 150 will be returned). The views of all parents should be heard by Ofsted across all year groups.
ReplyDeleteI was told by the office this morning that forms were sent out to all tutor rooms ?
