Please be sure that you have adequate information to complete the consultation response form before doing so. We believe that there is a lot of information missing from the report. We have already started to try and get hold of some of the info and we know others will be doing likewise. People's responses may be very different if they have all the info.
We are a little bit disappointed with the "leading" nature of the questions. The document needs great care to be taken to make sure you are selecting a choice that reflects your views.
Has there been any thought that Gordons school could expand to become a 150 pupil per year as this is what Surrey consider the minimum for a successful school. Same distance for Heatherside pupils who may have to go to Kings site for year 7,8 and 9 but going in opposite direction, less traffic congestion. Sure a lot of parents would consider Gordons school as an attractive proposition!
ReplyDeleteWe should totally ignore the questions and head straight for the "any further comments" section. I have no intention of being accountable for the closure of a school on 'my shift' when SCC's incompetence has made certain Kings has been failing for the last decade. Also, the blood of the first child knocked down when travelling to a site that their parents never selected is on THEIR hands, NOT mine. Emotive?? Too damn right ...
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a document writtend with such bias from a group of civil servants that are not supposed to be politically motivated.
ReplyDeleteThey have named 4 (FOUR) key challenges. Is that really all they got out of the preconsultation meetings!! If so, the interested parties attending were really wasting their time. And, it does not bode well for the notice they will pay to any questions answered on their consultation document.
Here is a few more challenges they are missing:
1. Integrating Kings students into a languages school;
2. Removing Kings families choice of school which is supposed to taken legal precedence;
3. Retention plan for students choosing a sixth form;
4. Retention programme for teachers;
5. What measures will be put in place to support the gifted and the academically challenged children in a school of over 2000 students. Many Kings parents chose a small school for this very reason;
6. 7. 8.....and I could go on....
Their entire document is filled with phrases such as "we think, we believe, we anticipate" etc. Where is the statistical proof of argument? Where is the documented demographics backing up their future admissions arguments? They have provided no back and expect that they can push this through because they "hope" it is the right decision!!!
The questions at the end of the consultation document only reinforce this. They are asking us to tell them if they are right or wrong about future admissions numbers!!
Re the expansion of Gordons it does seem a good idea, but Gordon's is in the process of becoming an Academy so won't have to take any of us from Surrey Heath as it will be able to decide its own Admissions policy. Already out of its 100 PAN, approximately 35/40 are from outside Surrey Heath. That leaves only 60/65 places for SH residents which is why the distance to qualify for Gordons is about the size of hop, skip and jump. Plus you still need to be able to pay their fees of approx £1900 per term. No, once Collingwood becomes an Academy there really only will be Tomlinscote and Kings under the full control of SCC. What a frightening thought !
