Following their own consultation with parents, staff and students and the receipt of their own commissioned due diligence report, the Governors of Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College met last night to consider the Surrey County Council proposal for Tomlinscote to become one school on two sites from September 2012.
After discussion on the proposal, consideration of the due diligence and consideration of the outcomes of their own consultations, the Governors voted on the Surrey County Council proposal.
The proposal was unanimously rejected by the Governing body.
Tomlinscote Governors wished to emphasise their strong support for Kings International through the current Soft Federation arrangement.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE ! A HUGE THANK YOU TO CAM - THIS WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT YOUR GUIDANCE AND ADVICE. WELL DONE EVERYONE WHO JOINED THE CAUSE !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much CAM for saving our childrens education! Can't wait to tell the kids!
ReplyDeleteJust seen the Parentmail with the Governors unanimously rejecting the proposal!! Thank you Governors! Thank you CAM! And thank you to everyone who supported the campaign!
ReplyDeleteoh my god, I am sure I speak out for all staff at Tomlinscote when I say a massive thank you for saving the school we/I love!! What a relief. I do not think that that we would be here now if it hadn't been for the awareness, campaigning and support all of you at CAM have shown!
ReplyDeleteCommon Sense prevailed .... but it may not have happened without the professionalism & commitment of CAM. So a MASSIVE thank you to all involved. What now for CAM? We need to continue support for Kings...
ReplyDeleteTomlinscote Parent
Congratulations & thank you, CAM.
ReplyDeleteAnd well done to the Governors for having the good-sense to make what was clearly the right decision, both for Tomlinscote and the wider community.
And to everyone who said "What's the point in doing anything, it's a 'done-deal'" - may I suggest you make a contribution to CAMS' legal fund by way of saying thank-you to those who didn't just roll-over and give in...
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted for all the children and both schools as well as for the whole community.
Congratulations to the governors, and to you CAM. All of you. My kids will be thrilled.
Natalie Sutton (parent).
Amazing....thank you CAM, thank you every one,
ReplyDeletejust one BIG THANK YOU!!!!!
Yes....Kings we do need to support you so don't worry there, it's not over yet!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all of you for saving the education of our children!
ReplyDeleteFantastic News! Many thanks to CAM and everyone involved. Let's keep the pressure on. Maybe it will be a certain 'Acting Head of Schools' who will have to look for a new job.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news, we must now protect Kings as a school and get CAM to help in this process.
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT BELIEVE IT. YES!! finally all voices have been heard a great big thankyou to all those involved in making this happen.
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC NEWS! A HUGE THANK YOU to CAM and all its supporters. It sure was not 'A DONE DEAL'. Perhaps CAM should take over SCC!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic news - we've won the battle but we still haven't won the war.......
ReplyDeleteKings MUST be removed from SCC control and allowed to stand on it's own two feet. The consultation document was to merge Kings or close it. They never mentioned keeping it going under a soft federation so we can only assume Kings is now closing.
Oasis Community Learning want to take Kings on, and build it into a strong viable school. We've seen one lot of common sense, now please can we see another bout and make Kings an academy!
SCC cannot be trusted, they wanted to close or merger this school.
ReplyDeleteThe only long term security for this school will be out of the control of SCC
Kings for Academy!
Well done CAM and all the public support. Excellent result.Lets hope we can continue to help keep Kings stay open and build on all the hard work that has been acheived in the last year.
ReplyDeleteLouise and Co ! You are all superstars ! I wonder if you really know what you have achieved here. SCC are tough cookies but the people rallied and the outcome is great. Shame on the people that sat back and said "done deal" - they should be especially grateful that their childrens education has been saved.
ReplyDeleteGREAT NEWS FOR TCOTE NOW LETS DO THE RIGHT THING
ReplyDeleteFOR KINGS TOO, THANK YOU CAM SO VERY MUCH
You can't beat "People Power" - especially when allied to common sense and an absolutely superb, professional campaign run by CAM. Well done to all concerned & THANKS!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic! Tears of joy are running down my face! Well done CAM. You have fought this cause superbly! Can't wait to tell my year 6, she will be overjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for that.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone who has got involved, we couldn't have done it without each other.
Now for round 2 KEEP KINGS OPEN!
I, as a Toms parent, would like to thank CAM including all the Kings parents who helped make this happen. Truly grateful. KEEP KINGS !
ReplyDeleteWe cannot trust SCC we cannot trust the Governors or new/old Head, we must push forward.
ReplyDelete* WE WILL WIN WHEN THE KINGS FUTURE IS SECURE AND NOT IN THE CONTROL OF SCC*
Congratulations to CAM and all our supporters for making this a successful campaign and persuading the Governors that a merger would not be viable. Thank you all for your support. We now need to focus on the Keep Kings campaign and prevent SCC from closing a perfectly good school.
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much CAM for helping to make this happen and to the Governors for making the right decision!! So relieved that the Toms battle is over but we must still fight on for Kings!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news about the Tomlinscote Governors decision - no to the merger:) Well done! 1st huge step, step 2 has to be Oasis Academy for Kings - Good Luck
ReplyDeleteA massive thankyou to all of CAM you are an amazing group of people who have made this community a real community again. well done i hope there is some money being collected to treat the whole team to a good evening out.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! So relieved and can't quite believe it!
ReplyDeleteThis goes to show that if you fight for what you believe in, you can succeed sometimes!
Thank you, thank you, thank you CAM.......you really are an amazing group of people!
ReplyDeleteThanks you to Louise and Co...now we must fight to keep Kings OPEN
ReplyDeleteWell done on all your hard work and commitment to this worthy cause. I am sure most of your families and jobs have suffered as a result and that you can all sleep easier tonight! Thank you x
ReplyDeleteWell done to you all, and thank you. I'm sure that with CAM's support, the Keep Kings campaign can turn out just as successfully. It is not a failing school, it is an improving one. Many of the things Kings do, such as making sure children feel safe and secure, fostering diversity and community spirit (for example, £10,000 raised on the Carol Wright Memorial Walk), and looking after SEN and EAL children's needs are above national averages. The school should be valued for what it does well, and it has many strengths to build on. I would hate to see PJ's dream of shutting it down come true.
ReplyDeleteThank you again for all your hard work.
Can't quite believe the news and also that the vote was unanimous. I thought we would have some governors voting no but never ever thought they all would. I'm sure some of them were in favour of it at the beginning. Does this also mean Mr Ryles voted no, or did he just not turn up?
ReplyDeleteThank you is such a small word but said with such heart felt gratitude. We seriously considered uprooting our entire family - our relief and dleight could not be greater. Now Tomlinscote has the right outcome we need to ensure that Kings gets it too. Cheers CAM
ReplyDeleteGreat, all the letters and emails were worthwhile, and well done CAM you provided a great focus of feeling. This Tomlinscote family is well pleased. Mark A
ReplyDeleteWhat can we do to help Kings stay open and hopefully gain their Academy status ?
ReplyDeleteThis is great news and thanks to CAM for their professional and relentless campaign to enable parents to keep their parental choice. The CAM team should be very proud of their never-ending committment to the cause - thank you. Lets keep supporting Kings.
ReplyDeleteAs a staff member at Tomlinscote can I say we are wholeheartedly behind Kings staying open and give our full support to our poor colleagues going through difficult times there. Let's keep both Tomlinscote and Kings as two strong schools for Surrey Heath.
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT NEWS!! Well done CAM for such a determined and thorough campaign. Common sense won out in the end. It just shows what can be schieved when we all work together. We are very grateful to you all for all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you CAM and the Governors too! A massive relief all round and a fantastic result, common sense did prevail! The battle is indeed won but the war must continue to get King's the Academy it so deserves. This whole saga has had one great outcome in that it has forged such good relationships with Kings and the King's parents and that has been a tremendous achievement! Keep Kings as an Academy and then we can have one huge party!
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a community can acheive when they all come together!! We would like to echo our thanks and enormous gratitude to Louise and all the CAM team for their great efforts in leading and fighting this merger proposal and everyone who made the effort to support the campaign in whatever way. We would also like to thank all the other brave individuals who stood up and fought for what they believed in and refused to be bullied or gagged in this process. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBut as has been already said, this battle is won but the war is not over. We wish to continue to support Kings and help it achieve Academy status, remove it out of the throttle grip that SCC has held it in. Surrey Heath needs choice and the children and parents of Kings and Surrey Heath deserve better than negative, narrow minded, short term and self serving interests of those at SCC pushing for the closure of Kings! CAM let us know what we need to do next, you have our continued support. We might not be Kings parents but we'll happily contribute again to any further fundraising to KEEP KINGS. Nicky L
Thanks you so so much to the Governors at Tomlinscote for doing an outstanding job in supporting our children and community. This shows that we did right in choosing them to represent what is right for our school. Now we must continue support Kings and get them where they deserve to be.
ReplyDeleteWell done CAM, what an amazing achievement. I dont think this community can thank you all enough for your hard work, and more importantly for not losing faith through the tough challenges and belief in what was right.
ReplyDeleteSo very pleased and relieved.......well done everyone involved.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow we must look to Kings and give them time and oppertunity to become a true choice for parents and children in Camberley.
Really great news !
ReplyDeleteBut will now be writing again to Michael Gove and SCC to urge that there is an internal review from this fiasco.
PJ Wilkinson, Tony Ryles et al still have a lot to answer to, when you consider the impact from this ill conceived and poorly presented proposal.
Just how much time and tax payers money has been wasted on this flawed consultation exercise? And more importantly (although harder to quantify) the anguish and stress to all affected parties from such a divisive proposal.
Only by pushing hard for answers and assurances from the SCC, can we be confident that this proposal will not be resurrected again under another guise.
awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWell done to CAM and all involved, a fantastic result. Let's ensure that the reputation of Tomlinscote is rebuilt quickly. The next fight will be saving Kings - as a Tomlinscote parent I will be there on the battlements facing the same enemy!
ReplyDeleteKings Academy next. We'll have to stay as CAM because Campaign against Closure (CAC) would never have worked so well. Can we look at the Grove buses next ?
ReplyDeleteWOW!! Wonderful News!! Congratulations to Louise, Barbara, Ian and the rest of the CAM team. You have done an incredible job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other comments that we need to stand firm and help Kings. We have proven that it wasn't a "done deal" with this proposal!! Here's to people power!!
Marvellous result. Lets make sure Kings gets the results they want/deserve too!
ReplyDeleteWow!! could not believe it when I got a phone call from Hubby at work to say the Govenors had said NO!!! My collegues must have thought I had won the Lottery as I danced with Joy. Well done Cam and everyone who kept the faith. Let's hope that the Kings parent now get what they want aswell we are right behind you. PJ READ IT AND WEEP YOU JUMPED UP LITTLE MAN.
ReplyDeleteI echo the earlier point about concerns over waste of our taxpayers money with SCC putting forward what they perceived to be a credible plan - a plan that was so flawed, inaccurate and poorly managed but one that all the stakeholders involved (with the exception of SCC) have categorically rejected. Lessons must be learnt from this fiasco so that it doesnt happen again. It makes you wonder as to what other poorly thought out iniatitives SCC are proposing. Its a shame that we had to point out to SCC that 'every child matters'.
ReplyDeleteFantastic result. Thank you so much CAM.
ReplyDeleteWe can now actually look forward and enjoy this time before our younger children start their further education at a school we chose for them! Keep fighting for Kings!
A fantastic outcome. I join with everyone in saying a big thank you to all at CAM. You should be very proud of yourselves. Tomlinscote/Kings pupils and teachers deserved better than this crass proposal. Onwards and upwards to a brighter future together. Don't forget to donate what you can towards the campaign funds. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much CAM! I knew it couldnt go ahead! I am just so greatful for all the work that has been put in to save our school! Thank you :)!!
ReplyDeleteWell done CAM great job! Now I know what Secondary School I will be going to in 2012 as I'm in year 5 at Ravenscote and I will definitely be going to Tomlinscote! But there is still 1 more job to do Make Kings a academy! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWELL DONE TO ALL
A great outcome, thanks, obviously to CAM but also to the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the right outcome. Please do not rush into the acadamy route at the moment-let Kings go onwards and upwards ,as they have been doing for the past year. There is a fab Head and Vice Principal installed for September and, surely,SCC would not dare to close them down in the forseeable future after this- let Kings become a school of choice in Camberley and then decide if Academy status is the right option. After all, will PJ still be around next week, month?? I doubt it and I feel that, although ,this has been their responsiblity SCC have been misled by their 'Acting Head of Schools' Please do not fix something that, at the moment is not breaking but mending, bigtime!!! P.S Please send a contribution to CAM-they've earnt it!!!
ReplyDeleteSense prevails! With some sterling efforts and the determination of CAM! Well Done! Thanks to the Governors for a credible decision, now we can keep our schools at the heart of our communities. How much do we pay SCC to put us and the children through this stress? It is also refreshing to see that SHBC has not towed the SCC line over this sensitive matter. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteA big thank you to CAM and everyone that supported this. Thanks to the Governors for a credible decision. This just goes to show you don't mess with a strong community,
ReplyDeleteWell done to all the members of CAM,fantastic campaign. One more fight to win keep Kings.A truly memorable victory my daughter will be so pleased, she can now spend all her school days at Tomlinscote.Well done to the Governors for making the right decision.
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of my family and children who attend Tomlinscote I would like to say a BIG THANKYOU to the CAM members and in particular Louise. Without your continued efforts and detemination this could have been so easily a different outcome. Let us not forget the children of Kings International and hope that the whole issue can be resolved in their favour as well.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
Two lovely schools, two great Heads -one(Judith Langley) about to take over in Sep, who, without doubt, will be very succesful and take the school onwards and upwards -the other(ZJW) who has orchestrated an outstanding OFSTED result-confirming outstanding staff, students and results...Both Heads have the passion and commitment to make the schools the most popular in our part of Surrey !!!Keep the Soft Federation, but question the need for a hugely expensive Executive Principal who was appointed in indecent haste during the consultation...............
ReplyDeleteI think the new executive principal will be a valuable asset for our schools. I met him during the governor consultation meeting and was impressed with what he had to say. At yesterdays parents meeting for the children joining year 7, he came across really well and set the tone for the evening. I was left reassured that Tomlinscote will now carry on delivering outstanding education and will actively keep looking at ways to improve further.
ReplyDeleteI feel Mr Hyland could apply his talents to support Kings so that it can build it's own success story over the next few years.
Just so happy that this is the outcome and a better future for aLl the children. CommonSense and caring for the children has prevailed hurrah!! Well done everybody. from Betty F.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news - Cam we can't thank you enough for what you have done for all of our children now and into the future.
ReplyDeleteRE anonymous on 29th June: Judith Langely is essentially a deputy head, she's not the headteacher.
