Amalgamation of three Junior schools (Bristow,Camberley,Watchets)

This might give people an idea of what we will get come May 3rd as our consultation document.

Consultation Document

It is interesting that SurreyCC is viewing "Mergers" as the solution in almost every case when there may be more credible alternatives.

  1. Hi
I've just read this proposal. It doesn't seem to be a 'merger' as the three existing school remain and the rule for determining admisions between Bristow and Camberley Infants seem interesting. Would a parent be offered Bristow if they choose Camberley Infants but Bristow is nearer to them? Would this occur even if their other two choices did not include Bristow?

I am wondering if this is Surrey County Council's idea of parental choice? Would this be recorded as offering parents their 'first choice' as Bristow and Camberley Infants are the same school? Am I reading this incorrectly - Would the parents only be offered to choose this 'new' primary and the allocation of which site you get be determined by Surrey County Council?

I guess this is the first step to reducing parental choice. Ultimately it would be a case of parents indicating they want a school in Camberley and we'll let the council choose a suitable school....

  2. Why can't they do this with the secondary schools. Re-brand Kings to become Tomlinscote-Kings - it can continue to be run by the Tomlinscote headmaster - and the children living nearest each site would attend that site. Much more sensible than making children walk 1.6 miles past their current site.
